PLANS FOR BABY

I recently acquired a 150 gallon aquarium which I have just happened to be calling Baby. The community of cichlids moving into this aquarium are my African Lake Malawi Haps and Peacocks. My intention is to eventually make this a assorted group of different species having a male and female of each. Many Cichlid aquarists prefer an all male community. I considered that option, but decided for my purpose, having a male and female of each is more suitable.

African Cichlids are an amazing species. They are able to mute or intensify their colours depending on their moods. They are very intelligent and soon recognize their caregivers eagerly greeting them when approaching the aquarium. Cichlids are by far the most colourful of all fresh water fish.

Working toward having the perfect community is not as simple as it sounds. It takes time. Cichlids are an aggressive fish and will not easily accept new comers often targeting them. Some cichlids just don't get along.

Haps and Peacocks African Cichlids

They live in a hierarchy society where everyone learns where they fit and respect the tank boss as their leader. On occasion the tank boss may be challenged but more often than not it's more of a test than an actual fight.

There is so much information to share on the wonderful hobby of fish keeping. I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
