CHOOSING AFRICAN CICHLIDS
When it comes to African Cichlids you never stop learning. From the different species to their unique natures each one is special. You not only learn about the fish themselves but the time and care they require. It's a huge commitment to get into fish keeping but African Cichlids are an entity all their own. It's highly recommended you do your homework before deciding on what fish to purchase. That is exactly what I did before finally choosing African Cichlids.
Setting up an aquarium is the first step. Mimicking the African Lake Malawi habitat is important if you want them to act as natural as possible. Mbuna are my favorite species living along the rocky shores of the lake. The sandy shores give way to a rocky scape where they make their homes. Mbuna, in the language of the Tonga people in eastern African, means Rock Fish

African Cichlids are an aggressive species that can not be homed with other tropical community fish. They do best with other Mbuna. That's where the fun comes in. There are so many beautiful varieties it's hard to choose. There are a huge range of colours and patterns they display that will create an outstanding community.
The Mbuna are highly aggressive so it's vital that you read all you can about this species. You want to equip yourself with the information you need to meet all of their unique requirements.
If you do choose African Cichlids you will get hooked.. they will become an addiction, They are incredibly intelligent, stunning to look at, interactive, funny, and so much more. Once you become an African Cichlid aquarist then you will understand this passion.
