YOU AND YOUR MINDSET

If you think you can – You are right - You can! However, if you think you can’t, you would also be right. This simple phrase shows the power of our thoughts and how they can rule our lives if we let them. Moving from the “I can’t mode” into the “I can mode” is something many of us need to work on.

It begins with changing our mindset. What is your mindset? Your mindset is what you think of yourself, your surroundings, life, your feelings and everything else that encompasses your existence. In other words your mindset is a culmination of your core values and your beliefs.

The changes have to begin with how you see yourself. You must acknowledge that you are in control of who you are and how others will see you. Fill your mind with positive thoughts of yourself. Think of all the wonderful things that you and only you are. Your uniqueness is such an amazing part of what makes you so special. Learning to like who you are, as you are is the key. If you try and be someone you are not, you are short changing everyone around you, by not letting them get to know the unique person you are.

Make a list of words that you would describe yourself. The list could be – who you are, mother, father, perhaps a student. Then move on to how you see yourself intellectually, smart, curious, inquisitive, then your beliefs, such as Christian, conservative, and finally a list of your skills, peacemaker, painter, writer etc. Take your list and reflect over what you have written. Going over this list you will begin to get a good sense of who you really are.

When a negative thought enters, slam that door and open the positive door. There’s one right next to it and it’s you that must open it. Change negative to positive immediately not giving negative thoughts any power in your life. We all have doubts as we are human, but it is essential that we kill the doubts. Surrounding yourself with positive people and those who encourage you is for your own well-being. Get rid of the ones who knock you down at every opportunity. You are the one person who is in control of who you allow into your life. You are far better off and much more likely to succeed by surrounding yourself with positive, supportive people.

Our inner perceptions work in two ways, the positive and the negative. The positive will develop a good self-esteem with encouraging thoughts such as “I can do this” and “I did a great job today” two very good phrases that will breed positive self-concepts. Negative thoughts will do much the same with the opposite results leading you to believe you can’t succeed, or you aren’t good enough.

Adopting a positive mindset will give you the power to change your failures into challenges which will turn into successes in life. Soon you will find you can accomplish things you’ve only dreamed about. With a positive attitude nothing can stand in your way of succeeding at whatever you put your mind to.
